Aspidistra 'Okame' (syn: A. elatior 'Variegata') is a very attractive variety. The erect dark green leaves, about 60-80 cm tall, have white vertical stripes that run along the length of the leaf. The tuft grows more slowly than the green-leaved Aspidistra , but once mature it will give your environment an exotic and bold accent. Also known simply as 'variegata', this plant can see the white parts of the leaf burnt if too much water is given or in case of intense cold. In the second case, it is easily solved with a spring pruning of the damaged leaves.
If it produces green leaves, it is advisable to remove the leaf and the portion of rhizome from which it arises.
